Google introduced Advanced Protection mode for Android 16, a security setting designed to harden devices against sophisticated attacks and mercenary spyware ecosystems. Targeted at high-risk users such as journalists and officials, the mode enables a suite of protections—including intrusion logging, USB protection, optional disabling of auto-reconnect to insecure networks, and integration with Phone by Google’s scam detection—with some features rolling out later this year.
