Lessons from a simulated ransomware attack

This article argues that ransomware readiness often fails not because backups are missing but because organizations haven't tested the operational complexity of recovery. Simulated attacks commonly expose unclear recovery priorities, technically restored systems that remain unusable, inter-team dependencies that slow restoration, and on-the-fly decision-making that breaks plans—prompting a shift toward treating simulations as operational stress tests rather than compliance exercises.
