Europe Moves to Ban AI Nudification Tools Under Updated AI Act

The European Council has proposed amendments to the EU AI Act that would ban AI tools that generate non-consensual sexual or intimate imagery (including child sexual abuse material), extend implementation deadlines for stand-alone and embedded high‑risk AI systems to December 2027 and August 2028 respectively, require registration of high‑risk AI systems in an EU database, restore a "strict necessity" standard for using sensitive personal data in bias mitigation, and postpone national AI sandbox deadlines — measures intended to simplify regulations while strengthening safeguards; the proposal will now be negotiated with the European Parliament.
