Hackers Target Social Media Accounts to Steal Explicit Content, FBI Warns

The FBI warns that sexual exploitation actors are illegally accessing social media and personal accounts to steal and post or sell non-consensual intimate images (NCII), often alongside victims' personally identifiable information. The advisory describes methods used—credential/PIN targeting (including use of leaked data), customer-service impersonation via text to capture reset codes, and phishing with look-alike domains—and recommends protections such as unique complex passphrases, multi-factor authentication, cautious handling of links and codes, avoiding storing sensitive content online, and reporting incidents to FBI NCII resources or local field offices.
