Osaka Metropolitan University Hit by Ransomware, 130,000 Records at Risk

Osaka Metropolitan University experienced a ransomware attack on October 2, 2026 that caused a large-scale failure of its virtualization infrastructure and took down websites, email, campus network and multiple education and administrative systems; the university says roughly 130,000 current and former students and staff may have had data exposed and has launched an investigation while working to restore services and notifying authorities.
