Mountain View Shuts Down Flock Safety ALPR Cameras After Year-Long Unrestricted Data Access

Mountain View paused its Flock Safety automated license plate reader (ALPR) pilot after discovering that statewide lookup had been enabled since the program began and that national lookup had been enabled for a period, allowing out-of-state agencies to search the city's license-plate records contrary to law and policy; the city cites vendor access-control failures and lack of transparency and will review the contract and program.
