Smart Homes Are Getting Smarter—But Post-Breach Guidance Is Falling Behind

Leipzig University researchers reviewed 101 government sources from 11 countries and retained 35 guidance documents, finding a strong emphasis on preventive measures (router hardening, password hygiene, updates, MFA) but very limited structured recovery or incident-response advice for smart home breaches; only France and Singapore provided clear step-by-step recovery workflows. The study recommends governments reorganize existing advice into phased, actionable workflows and provide lightweight validation checks to help households recover confidently after a smart home compromise.
