Zimbabwe Boosts Cybersecurity as AI-Driven Cyber Fraud Surges

Zimbabwe is experiencing an increase in cyber fraud—driven by AI-enabled tactics like deepfake voice cloning, automated phishing, and adaptive malware—with mobile-money losses estimated at over US$30 million annually and phishing/social-engineering attacks up over 40%. The government is expanding capabilities (a National Security Operations Centre, a national CSIRT, and an upcoming "Zimbabwe AI Cyber Shield" for real-time fraud detection), pursuing legal reforms to criminalize AI misuse, and investing in workforce training and public digital literacy to strengthen national cybersecurity.
