Inside Uzbekistan’s nationwide license plate surveillance system

TechCrunch reports that Uzbekistan’s nationwide license-plate reader system, run by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and using Maxvision cameras, was found publicly exposed on the internet without a password, exposing GPS locations of roughly a hundred cameras and millions of photos and 4K video of vehicles and occupants; the system’s web dashboard allowed access to raw footage and tracking data, and the exposure remained online while Uzbek authorities did not respond to inquiries.
