Microsoft says 8.5M Windows devices were affected by CrowdStrike outage

A Microsoft blog post estimates around 8.5 million Windows devices were impacted by a faulty CrowdStrike security software update that caused crashes, disrupting airlines, banks, retailers, and other critical services worldwide; while the percentage affected was small, the economic and societal impacts were significant, and Microsoft is collaborating with CrowdStrike, AWS, and Google Cloud to accelerate scalable recovery solutions (Mac and Linux were not affected).
