Data breach at govtech giant Conduent balloons, affecting millions more Americans

A January 2025 ransomware attack against Conduent disrupted operations and led to a large data breach; the Safeway ransomware gang claimed to have stolen approximately 8 TB of data. State notifications indicate at least 15.4 million people in Texas and 10.5 million in Oregon may be affected, with stolen records reportedly including names, Social Security numbers, medical and health insurance information. Conduent is still analyzing affected files and notifying victims, with full notification expected by early 2026.
