US, UK police identify and charge Russian leader of LockBit ransomware gang

Law enforcement disclosed the identity of LockBit's alleged leader, Dmitry Yuryevich Khoroshev, announcing his indictment and U.S. sanctions; the report states LockBit is a highly prolific ransomware variant blamed for over 2,000 victims, more than $100 million in ransom payments, attacks on critical targets including hospitals, and that authorities seized the gang’s dark web site and recovered thousands of decryption keys as part of Operation Cronos.
