Law enforcement shuts down VPN service used by two dozen ransomware gangs

An international coalition of law-enforcement agencies dismantled 'First VPN', a popular VPN service used by cybercriminals across 27 countries, seizing its user database, arresting the administrator, and dismantling dozens of servers. Investigators said the service had been used by at least 25 ransomware gangs and for scanning the internet, running botnets, launching DDoS attacks, and conducting scams; authorities identified thousands of users linked to the cybercrime ecosystem.
