One of Europe’s largest universities knocked offline for days after cyberattack

La Sapienza University in Rome experienced a multi-day outage reportedly caused by a ransomware attack allegedly conducted by a newly identified gang called Femwar02 using BabLock (Rorschach) ransomware; the university took systems offline as a precaution, is restoring services from backups, and Italy's national cybersecurity agency is investigating. The attackers purportedly sent a ransom link with a 72‑hour countdown, and the incident affected email and workstations while exams continued in-person.
