T-Mobile ‘chopped a cable’ to expel Chinese hackers from its network

Bloomberg reported that T-Mobile discovered and expelled Chinese government-backed hackers known as Salt Typhoon in 2024 after an industry-wide campaign that compromised hundreds of telecoms, internet companies, and data centers to steal phone records and information on senior U.S. officials; T-Mobile isolated the intrusion by identifying unusual cross-network activity and physically disconnecting a compromised system.
