AI aids nation-state hackers but also helps US spies to find them, says NSA cyber director

NSA Cybersecurity Director Rob Joyce stated that both nation-state and criminal actors are using generative AI to enhance phishing, influence operations, and technical execution of intrusions, while U.S. intelligence employs AI/ML to surface anomalous behavior across critical infrastructure. He noted China-backed hackers are focusing on exploiting vulnerabilities and implementation flaws rather than traditional malware to blend in with legitimate users, underscoring the dual-use nature of AI and the need for stronger safeguards.
