Kids in the UK are hacking their own schools for dares and notoriety

The UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) analysed 215 internal data breach reports from schools and found students were responsible for 57% of incidents, often exploiting guessed or written-down passwords and weak access controls; a small portion (5%) used more advanced password-cracking tools. The report highlights contributing factors—teachers permitting device sharing, staff using personal devices, and misconfigured access on systems like SharePoint—and recommends refreshed GDPR training and stronger cybersecurity controls.
