Australian spy chief warns Chinese hackers are ‘probing’ critical networks for espionage and sabotage

Australia’s intelligence chief warns that China-backed APT groups — specifically Volt Typhoon and Salt Typhoon — are actively probing and in some cases have accessed the country’s critical infrastructure (power, water, transportation) and telecom networks. Authorities and allied governments indicate these groups have pre-positioned malware and compromised numerous telcos and service providers, raising risks of disruptive sabotage, espionage, and large-scale service outages.
