DOJ confirms arrested US Army soldier is linked to AT&T and Verizon hacks

U.S. prosecutors have linked the December arrest of a U.S. Army communications specialist to a widespread Snowflake account compromise that resulted in the exfiltration of massive volumes of customer call records (including nearly all AT&T records through 2024 and substantial Verizon logs) and sensitive PII from over 160 companies; the intrusions allegedly used passwords stolen via malware, enabled extortion threats (including claims of leaked records for high-profile individuals), and have resulted in multiple indictments and arrests.
