Scammers found planting online betting ads on Indian government websites

TechCrunch discovered roughly four dozen Indian government “gov.in” webpages—including sites for state police and property tax departments—containing ads or links that redirected visitors to online betting platforms; the links were indexed by search engines. TechCrunch alerted CERT-In, which acknowledged receipt and escalated the matter, but the mechanism used to plant the ads and whether the issue has been remediated are unclear.
