Petco’s security lapse affected customers’ SSNs, drivers’ licenses and more 

Petco reported a data breach caused by a misconfigured software application setting that inadvertently made files containing customers' personal information (including SSNs, driver’s license numbers, financial account/card numbers, names, and dates of birth) accessible online. The company filed legally required notices in Texas, California, Massachusetts, and Montana, is offering identity/credit monitoring to affected residents in some states, and says it corrected the configuration and removed the exposed files; the total number of victims and whether data was accessed or stolen remain unclear.
