LoanDepot says 16.6M customers had ‘sensitive personal’ information stolen in cyberattack

LoanDepot was hit by a suspected ransomware attack around January 4, 2024, that encrypted systems and led to the theft of sensitive personal information for roughly 16.6–17 million customers, including names, dates of birth, contact details, financial account numbers, and Social Security numbers; the outage prevented customers from accessing accounts or making payments and is expected to reduce the company’s fiscal Q1 earnings by $12–$17 million.
