Ubuntu services hit by outages after DDoS attack

Hacktivists claimed responsibility for a sustained DDoS attack that disrupted Canonical/Ubuntu public-facing services, including the security API and package updates, leaving users unable to install or update software for roughly 20 hours; the attackers said they used a DDoS-for-hire service (Beamed) and public reporting verified failed updates on test devices.
