South Korea hits Coupang with $400M+ fine for data breach that affected millions

South Korea’s data protection regulator fined e‑commerce firm Coupang 624 billion won after a months-long data breach discovered in December 2025 exposed personal information (names, emails, shipping addresses, phone numbers and order histories) of more than 34 million customers; Coupang plans to contest the record penalty and the case has drawn political attention between South Korean and U.S. officials.
