Fintech firm Marquis blames hack at firewall provider SonicWall for its data breach

Marquis, a fintech servicing hundreds of banks and credit unions, disclosed an August 2025 ransomware attack that exfiltrated customer personal and financial data including Social Security numbers. Marquis claims attackers leveraged firewall configuration data and credentials obtained from an earlier SonicWall cloud backup breach (which SonicWall later said affected all customers who used that backup), though SonicWall has requested evidence and disputes a confirmed connection; Marquis is evaluating legal and remediation options.
