BlackBerry sells Cylance for $160M, a fraction of the $1.4B it paid in 2018

Arctic Wolf is acquiring BlackBerry’s Cylance for $160 million in cash (about $80 million at close, the remainder a year later) plus roughly 5.5 million Arctic Wolf shares, as BlackBerry pivots away from its loss-making endpoint unit (which posted a $51M loss and held about 1.3% endpoint market share in 2022). BlackBerry frames the deal as enabling continuity for customers and plans to resell the portfolio to government clients while retaining an equity stake, and Arctic Wolf says it will fold Cylance’s endpoint capabilities into its platform to expand and refine its endpoint security offerings.
