Lawmakers propose giving 2015 OPM breach victims identity protection for life

A decade after two massive Office of Personnel Management breaches compromised sensitive records for about 22.1 million current, former and prospective federal employees and contractors, many victims face the end of 10-year identity-protection coverage; lawmakers are introducing the RECOVER PII Act to provide lifetime identity-protection services, preserve identity-theft insurance, and allow agencies to reimburse privacy tools and services to mitigate long-term risks from nation-state actors combining stolen data with other sources.
