Lawmakers ask Commerce to sanction Indian firms involved in mercenary hacking

U.S. lawmakers have asked the Commerce Department to sanction three India-linked firms accused of operating a global hack-for-hire network that targeted newsrooms, corporate executives, legal teams, NGOs, foreign officials, and U.S. political figures; the firms are also alleged to have used legal actions to censor investigative reporting about their activities.
