National cyber director doesn’t envision industry doing offensive hacking

National Cyber Director Sean Cairncross stated at a public event that the U.S. government does not plan to outsource offensive cyber operations to private-sector companies; instead, he emphasized using private-sector capabilities for defensive information sharing and supporting the National Cyber Strategy’s pillars such as securing infrastructure, modernizing government networks, and building cyber talent.
