Chinese telecom firms kept footholds in US networks despite federal crackdowns, House probe finds

The House China Committee found that China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom maintained equipment, points-of-presence, data-center leases and private routing relationships in the U.S. despite FCC denials or revocations; investigators link these residual ties to the Salt Typhoon espionage campaign, thousands of alleged BGP hijacks diverting U.S. traffic, and relationships with hosting and contractor infrastructure tied to malicious activity. The panel recommends stronger authority over foreign-controlled equipment and private arrangements, targeted removal funding, improved routing protections and logging for foreign operators.
