U.S. Justice Department Sues Apple Over Monopoly and Messaging Security

The U.S. Department of Justice, joined by 16 states, filed an antitrust lawsuit alleging Apple illegally maintains a smartphone monopoly that harms competition and user security by keeping iMessage closed to non-Apple devices, defaulting cross-platform messages to insecure SMS, and blocking third-party interoperability efforts (such as Beeper Mini); the complaint also accuses Apple of using privacy and security claims selectively to justify anti-competitive practices.
