The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has banned Outlogic (formerly X-Mode Social) from sharing or selling sensitive location data and ordered the company to destroy previously collected location information unless de-identified or consented to, establish a comprehensive privacy program and maintain a list of sensitive locations. The action stems from allegations that the broker sold precise, non-anonymized location data that could track visits to sensitive sites (medical and reproductive health clinics, places of worship, domestic abuse shelters), and follows earlier scrutiny over the company’s sales to military customers and platform vendors urging removal of its SDK.
