Google Starts Blocking Sideloading of Potentially Dangerous Android Apps in Singapore

Google launched a pilot in Singapore that prevents users from sideloading Android apps which request sensitive runtime permissions (SMS access, notification access, accessibility services) frequently abused to intercept one-time passwords and exfiltrate sensitive data. Play Protect will analyze apps at install time and block installations of suspicious APKs with a warning, part of a broader effort to reduce mobile fraud and encourage developers to follow permission best practices.
