U.S. EPA Forms Task Force to Protect Water Systems from Cyberattacks

The EPA is forming a Water Sector Cybersecurity Task Force to address cyber threats to U.S. water and wastewater systems, following evidence of intrusions tied to an Iranian hacktivist group (Cyber Av3ngers) and the China-linked Volt Typhoon APT. CISA and other agencies warn that Volt Typhoon has pre-positioned in critical infrastructure networks to enable future disruption, and industry advisories urge stronger security practices, logging, supply chain protections, and social engineering awareness.
