Ukrainian REvil Hacker Sentenced to 13 Years and Ordered to Pay $16 Million

A member of the REvil/Sodinokibi ransomware group was extradited, pleaded guilty and sentenced to over 13 years in prison for orchestrating more than 2,500 ransomware attacks that demanded over $700 million in cryptocurrency; U.S. authorities secured forfeiture of seized ransom proceeds and sanctioned co-conspirators, while a separate indictment describes a botnet operator who sold access to infected machines and used hidden VNC and credential theft to facilitate fraud and malware distribution.
