Automated Threats Pose Increasing Risk to the Travel Industry

Imperva's 2024 Bad Bot Report shows the travel industry is increasingly targeted by automated threats: bad bots made up 44.5% of travel web traffic in 2023 and advanced bots accounted for 61% of malicious activity. Common attacks include fare scraping, seat spinning, and account takeover, causing financial costs (e.g., inflated API fees), operational disruption, and fraud; the report recommends layered defenses such as real-time bot detection, behavioral profiling, fingerprinting, and restricting traffic from risky sources.
