New Bit2Watt Attack Could Let Cloud Tenants Disrupt Power Grids Without an Exploit

Bit2Watt is a research report showing that ordinary GPU workloads—either a purpose-built CUDA kernel (SWMA) or modified LLM training (LTMA)—can be toggled to generate kilohertz-range power oscillations. Laboratory measurements and simulations indicate that, if thousands of GPUs modulate in tight lockstep, those oscillations could produce harmful harmonic distortion and even cascade on grid models; the technique requires no software exploit or privileged access but depends on strong synchronization, clustered hardware, and specific grid conditions, and no real-world attack has been observed.
