OVHcloud Hit with Record 840 Million PPS DDoS Attack Using MikroTik Routers

OVHcloud mitigated a record 840 Mpps DDoS attack in April 2024—attributed to a combination of a TCP ACK flood from ~5,000 source IPs and a DNS reflection amplification using ~15,000 DNS servers—and warns that rising exploitation of exposed, outdated MikroTik routers is enabling increasingly frequent and intense packet-rate attacks (regularly exceeding 1 Tbps and peaking near 2.5 Tbps), which could allow botnets to generate billions of packets per second and challenge current anti-DDoS infrastructure.
