Kimwolf DDoS Botnet Operator Arrested in Canada Over DDoS-for-Hire Attacks

The U.S. Department of Justice announced the arrest of Jacob Butler (aka Dort) in connection with Kimwolf, a DDoS botnet (an AISURU variant) that enslaved firewalled IoT devices to conduct large-scale DDoS-for-hire attacks—reportedly issuing over 25,000 attack commands and contributing to floods peaking at 31.4 Tbps—after authorities disrupted its command-and-control infrastructure and unsealed seizure warrants targeting supporting services.
