Google Maps Timeline Data to be Stored Locally on Your Device for Privacy

Google will move Maps Timeline data to local device storage (effective December 1, 2024), removing the ability to view Timeline on the web; users are encouraged to enable encrypted backups to facilitate device transfers. The change follows prior updates to Location History controls and is presented as part of Google's response to lawsuits and allegations that it previously collected location data despite users disabling Location History.
