Why Gen AI Alone Can’t Solve the SOC Automation Challenge

This report discusses how Generative AI can support SOC operations by excelling at text-centric tasks such as analyzing alerts and scripts, recognizing patterns, generating rules/queries, and summarizing data, while acknowledging its limitations in critical decision-making, evidence collection, non-text analysis, and operational actions. It advocates a hybrid approach that pairs LLM-driven analysis with deterministic forensic engines and extensive tool integrations to deliver accurate investigations, prioritization, and reporting. Intezer’s Autonomous SOC is presented as an implementation of this model, combining private LLM instances with memory forensics, binary analysis, and broad SIEM/SOAR/EDR integrations.
