Typosquatting and the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election: Cyberspace As the New Political Battleground

Digital Shadows' Threat Research Team analyzed typosquatting targeting 2020 U.S. presidential candidates, identifying over 550 candidate-related typosquats—predominantly redirects (68%)—that included redirects to opponents and to Chrome extensions with high-risk permissions; the report lists domains, an IP hosting many suspicious domains (50.63.164.243), CRXcavator reports, discusses WHOIS/GDPR challenges, and recommends mitigations such as buying similar domains and monitoring registrations.
