Discord announced the rollout of end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for voice and video calls using the DAVE protocol, completing migration in March 2026 and formally announcing on May 19, 2026. The open-source, Trail of Bits-audited protocol supports desktop, mobile, web browsers, consoles, SDKs and bots, enables MLS-based group key exchange and ephemeral identity keys, and makes E2EE available across DMs, group DMs, voice channels and Go Live streams while excluding Stage Channels and text messages.
