Taiwan High Speed Rail Hit by Radio Signal Spoofing Attack That Stopped Three Trains

During the Qingming Festival, an attacker exploited a vulnerability in Taiwan High Speed Rail's core systems and used electromagnetic interference and wireless broadcasting hardware to impersonate a Tetra mobile communication device and broadcast a General Alarm, forcing emergency stops on three trains and stranding passengers for about 48 minutes. Law enforcement traced the spoofed signal, executed searches, seized equipment, and charged a 23-year-old suspect; the incident underscores vulnerabilities in radio-based OT and calls for stronger signal authentication and anomaly detection in transit systems.
