Calls to Ban Chinese AI App DeepSeek Due to Data Harvesting Concerns

State attorneys general and lawmakers are urging bans on the Chinese-owned DeepSeek AI app for government devices over national-security concerns, alleging the app could be exploited to harvest chat histories, IP addresses, and other sensitive data potentially for the Chinese government; 21 AGs signed a letter, several U.S. states and countries have already banned the app, and the House Energy and Commerce Committee has opened a probe into its data practices and links to the CCP.
