UK Designates Foreign Bodies Under New National Security Act

On 14 July 2026 the UK laid draft regulations to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Islamic Movement of Companions of the Right, and Russia's GRU Volunteer Corps as threats under the National Security (State Threats) Act 2026; the designation criminalises support (with penalties up to life imprisonment for serious offences) and targets activities such as intimidation and plots on UK soil. The UK and EU have also issued joint cyber sanctions against Russian state-linked cyber actors, and Parliament is reviewing the draft regulations.
