Iranian Hackers Breach Los Angeles Transit System, Steal 700GB of Data

In March 2026 Iranian state-linked hackers (using the persona Ababil of Minab and linked to MOIS) breached the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, exfiltrating at least 700 GB of emails, backups, and internal files while also performing destructive deletions of virtual machines, databases, and backups that disrupted internal and customer-facing systems; the operation is part of a wider campaign affecting organizations across the U.S., Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey and took weeks to remediate.
