G7 Leaders Address North Korean Cybercrime and Cryptocurrency Theft

During the June 15–17, 2026 G7 Summit in Évian-les-Bains, leaders reported that North Korean hacking groups stole roughly $2.02 billion in 2025 and about $6.75 billion in cryptocurrency cumulatively by mid-2026, labeling these thefts a direct threat to the global financial system and a funding mechanism for North Korea's nuclear programs; the summit called for VASPs to block transactions from known North Korean wallets, enhanced cooperation among intelligence agencies and blockchain analytics firms, and attention to insider threats from North Korean IT workers embedded in legitimate crypto services.
