Want to Win a Bike Race? Hack Your Rival’s Wireless Shifters

Researchers from UC San Diego and Northeastern revealed at a Usenix workshop a proof-of-concept radio attack against Shimano wireless electronic gear-shifting systems that can spoof or jam signals from up to ~30 feet, forcing unexpected gear changes or locking gears; the technique requires inexpensive hardware and could cause performance loss or physical danger in races, though the report documents a demonstration rather than evidence of active attacks.
