License Plate Readers Are Leaking Real-Time Video Feeds and Vehicle Data

Security researcher Matt Brown discovered and publicized that over 150 Motorola ALPR (automatic license plate reader) cameras were misconfigured, exposing unauthenticated live video streams and stored vehicle data (including photos and license-plate logs). WIRED and other technologists verified the exposures; Motorola acknowledged the problem and said it is working with customers to close access. The exposure poses privacy risks by leaking identifiable vehicle images and movement logs, though there is no indication in the report of malicious exploitation beyond discovery and public disclosure.
